Banket, Maka, Banket!

Malka is VERY much aware that this is HER blanket (banket!) made for her by Eemah.

THAT in and of itself is what makes me gush inside.

Now pardon me, I have to go and check on the Challah I'm making - the house smells AMAZING! (It's been great having Fridays off - I'm not sure how I'll manage my promise to myself to make Challah each week when I'm working on Fridays, but I'll figure something out - maybe an overnight rise, less kneading - not sure yet - but I'm open to suggestions)

Also - I'm so sorry that I've been a bit distant, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few of you have written me off. Now that the Jewish High Holy Day Season is completing, I should have more time to blog again.

Any ideas? Questions? I've never done the "answer questions" blog post - so send 'um on over, and I'll do my best to answer them.

Cheers!

Her blanket is absolutely gorgeous. Seriously.
I've always admired folks who can quilt. I love doing crafty stuff but I so don't have the patience for quilting.

You are so domestic, I am jealous! I say that as I am trying to figure out how to thread the sewing machine!!!

Shabbat Shalom. Enjoy it to the fullest with your family!

thanks you two!

It's actually a "cheater's quilt!"

I'm HORRID at exact measurements, including my cooking. I'm Eastern European Jewish, and I inherited that from my Bubbe, z"l.

Anyhoo.... It's a bunch of squares, sewn together, and the seams don't even line up perfectly, and then I did the cheating method of quilting - it's called "stitch in the ditch" - basically quilt with the sewing machine along the seam lines. There's lots of zig zag lines, and such, but for my first quilt, I'm awfully proud.

The quilt is awesome and stitch in the ditch rocks as it conceals many flaws. I still use it and I've been quilting for a while!

On the bread - can you cheat by using a mixer? What about using a bread maker to do the knead and rise? Or does that violate all kinds of good things? I also make bread but not anymore since carbs are so bad for me... sooooo bad, but sooooo-sooooooo good :-)
