A Girl Like Me

I belong to a lesbian mom's list serv, and one of them brilliantly pointed me in the direction of this movie:

A GIrl like Me

Go watch it.

I want to encourage Malka in so many ways to be her true, beautiful self. This movie, this organization, can help.

That was so interesting. I was especially surprised by the doll "experiment." For Xmas I bought Eliza a babydoll that could go in the bathtub with her. She loved it and took it everywhere. EVERYONE starting making comments and asking why I bought a black baby doll. It was a babydoll. Eliza loved it. I thought she was cute. Why did her skin color matter?

I think we all have to raise our daughters (and our sons, but maybe not to the same extent) to believe in themselves and see their beauty. I see now that some girls have to overcome even more to recognize that.

Malka is a lucky girl to have mommies like you! :)
